Leftover Teensy Stuff Sale

Now that SparkFun is manufacturing and selling Teensy (a good thing which will allow Paul to focus on software), we have a small pile of leftover stuff to sell.

Most of these leftover Teensy boards have minor flaws, but are fully functional. Each Teensy will come with a "grab bag" of random leftover stuff. Details below.

USA shipping only for this sale. Much as we want to serve everyone, customs declaration needed for international shipping just isn't feasible for a free grab bag of random leftover stuff.

LEFTOVER_USB_CONNECTOR Large Box of 5000 USB Connectors, Part Number 10104111-0001LF, 5 reels of 1000 $42.00

Limit 5 leftover Teensy and grab bag per person (was limit 1 on first day). We want to allow everyone a chance to get one. But if you order another the next day and don't call our attention, we'll probably just let it slide. If you really want a particular grab bag item, just mention it in "additional instructions" during checkout. Request only one item.

Teensy 4.0 With Pins Soldered Crooked

The companies we used for soldering the pins to Teensy were supposed to fit the pins into a jig. But with a batch of Teensy 4.0 something went wrong. Even though the pins are fully functional, then ended up not at the normal 90 degree angle from Teensy.

Other Random Teensy

If you choose this option, you'll probably get Teensy 4.0 (without pins) or perhaps Teensy 4.1. Which Teensy you get will be random. But it won't be Teensy 4.0 with pins. We did find a few of those with straight pins and we're mixing them in with the crooked pins, so everyone who chooses the first option has a small chance of actually getting properly soldered straight pins.

Some of these random Teensy were not sold because of a minor cosmetic flaw. Many others are simply postal returns. Which type you get will be unpredictable.

Grab Bags of Leftover Stuff

Each Teensy will ship with a free "grab bag" of random leftover items. These are the main items we'll include in the grab bags.

Small ILI9341 Display

This is the ILI9341 display shown on page 31 of the Audio Tutorial PDF and in the last part of the Video Demo on YouTube (skip forward to 45:30).

Before the pandemic, we sold a completely built breadboard. But it took far too much labor to build, which we couldn't possibly manage during Oregon's shelter in place order.

Sometime (usually) we included the display, even though it wasn't promised as part of the product. These displays are the leftovers we never got to use after halting sales of those fully built audio tutorial.

SD Adaptor for Teensy 2.0

This SD Adaptor was meant to connect a SD card to Teensy 2.0.

This little board can be pretty useful for generic SD card usage, since it has a 74LCX125 buffer chip which is fast enough for 25 MHz use.

Wire Bundles

These are good quality #22 solid core wire meant for use on solderless breadboard. The same wire was sold in the Parts Kit For Teensyduino Tutorials 1 to 4 and Audio Tutorial Extra Parts kits.

We had planned to sell these wire bundles are separate items in all 10 colors, since this #22 solid wire works so much better than the flimsy extremely thing breadboard wires so many other companies sell.

Prop Shield (without motion sensors) for Teensy 3.x

The Prop Shield combined motion sensors, audio amplifier, flash memory, and 5V LED driver buffers intended for portable projects with light and sound.

While useful for almost any board, this pin connections were meant for Teensy 3.2 and Teensy LC. These leftover boards lack the motion sensors (which become unavailable during the 2021-2023 supply chain shortages).

Wiznet 820 and SD Adaptor for Teensy 3.x

This Wiznet 820 and SD Adaptor was meant to connect networking and data storage to Teensy 3.x boards.

Today most Teensy projects needing ethernet networking use Teensy 4.1 which has native ethernet that is much more efficient than SPI-connected Wiznet ethernet.

USB Host Shield That Never Was (for Teensy 2.0)

This USB host shield was designed in 2011 and a small initial batch was built. But the project was abandoned when work began on Teensy 3.0.

This shield has the same MAX3421E USB host chip as other USB host shields and works with the same USB Host Shield library. It has a fast 74LCX125 buffer chip for 5V tolerance, which allows use with newer boards using faster SPI.

Unlike most USB host shields for Arduino, this one has a TPS2045 current limit chip and large capacitor to support USB device hot plugging. Most other USB host shields without these parts risk power supply brown-out during hot plug events when the discharged capacitors inside a just-connected USB device need to power up.

The SPI signals default to the pins on Teensy 2.0, but can be reconfigured by cutting apart and soldering pads on the bottom side.

Unfortunately there is no further documentation (such as a schematic) for these long abandoned boards. They are untested, but at least 1 was used and worked fine. Please know these are in as-is condition, but they might come in handy for any projects using the USB Host Shield library.

Teensy 3.0 Promo

At some point we had planned a promotion for Teensy 3.0. These boards were packaged with "not for resale" labels. But plans changed and they were set aside.

Unfortunately we no longer have printed pinout reference cards for Teensy 3.0, but all the info is online.

Random Postal Returned Products

When the postal service returns a package months or even years later because they were unable to deliver, often we have just marked the bags with these "Postal Return" lables and tossed them into a box, never to be seen again. Especially during the pandemic chip shortages where we needed to redesign circuit boards, and labor was in short supply, we just didn't have time to check which version was returned. Now most of those returned products get a second chance to be useful in projects.

Box of 5000 USB Connectors

These are the USB connector that was used on Teensy 3.2 and Teensy LC. It's FCI part number 10104111-0001LF (PDF Drawing)

Each box has 5 reels of 1000.

Early in the pandemic supply chain shortages, we ordered a very large number of these connectors and other parts. They were badly delayed. During the time we made a mistake and placed a second large order (the mistake was not recording the first order, so later our planning process drove us to buy them again). Later NXP couldn't supply the chips and we ultimately discontinued all the Teensy 3.x products. These mistakenly purchased USB connectors are what remains!

We're selling these at $42 because that's about what UPS charges to ship a large box Oregon to anywhere within the 48 continental US states. It works out to be about 1 penny per connector! We have a good number of these boxes, so if you want more than 1, no ordering limits like the grab bags.
